I loved knitting this pattern! Finishing every repeat felt like a little achievement and I just wanted to keep going on to the next repeat. The socks fit great and I love them a lot. – Skylar, Test Knitter
Pattern Roundup: Anita – This third installment in the Night at the Movies Sock Club is inspired by West Side Story. I adore the choreography of The Gangs Fight in the Street from West Side Story (not so much the storyline as I’ve never been a huge Romeo & Juliet fan, plus there’s a lot of “yikes” undertones in this adaptation) and the musical score.
The pattern is named after Rita Moreno’s character Anita, who I learned spoke up against lyrics in songs that she was supposed to sing because they were discriminating and the writers changed the lyrics because of her amazing ability to stand up for herself and what was right. I have so much admiration for women who bust barriers like that.
Worked in the round, Anita contains both cuff-down and toe-up written directions and a chart for the pattern stitch. The pattern has instructions for an afterthought heel, but you may substitute whatever heel you enjoy using.
The pattern is written for the magic loop method for knitting socks; however, the design could be worked on double-pointed needles or mini-circulars instead should you prefer.
