With the hustle and bustle of creating a new design, we sometimes miss a step. I know I use to!
To avoid missing one of those precious steps, I follow a step by step checklist. This ensures that I don’t forget anything along the way, from drawing up my initial idea to the final draft of the pattern, there’s a hefty list of tasks to complete to get you from point A to point B.
I utilize Trello (a wonderful project management system) and have a “new pattern template” that contains all the checklists I use for pattern designing – which includes the one below as well as the pattern launch strategy. I make a “copy” of that board for each design, plucking away at tasks that go into a pattern. I’m a fan of keeping things as digital as possible, plus it updates on all my devices so I can access it anywhere.
Alternatively, you could print out the checklists when you get an idea and begin working my way through it. A checklist will not only help to stay on task but ensure a high quality of work is going into each design and staying consistent from pattern to pattern.
