Zion

$7.00

Picture this: your dear uncle, a fervent Trekkie, adamantly disputes the merit of hand-knit socks, labeling them as uncomfortably scratchy, and even boldly asserting that not even Spock himself would consider donning them. Armed with your knitting prowess and indomitable spirit, you embark on an uncharted mission to knit the ultimate pair of socks that will shatter his preconceptions.

With my trusty needles and Turtlepurl Yarns’ “Live Long & Prosper” colorway, I embarked on a journey to create socks that not only promised unparalleled comfort, free from any hint of itchiness but also exuded the captivating charm that Trekkies hold dear. With each stitch, I conjured an image of Spock’s quizzical gaze, overseeing every cable’s meticulous formation. I knew that with each strand of yarn, I drew closer to revealing the true might of hand-knit socks and winning my uncle’s allegiance. Zion was born!

In a nutshell, my Trekkie uncle was utterly smitten with the cabled socks I presented him. The fit was flawless, delivering supreme comfort minus any scratchiness. As for the “Live Long & Prosper” colorway? It was the icing on the cake—a fitting homage to his devotion to Spock and all things Star Trek.

Today, my uncle stands as a staunch advocate of hand-knit socks, even requesting more pairs. If you’re yearning to unleash your inner Trekkie and convincingly showcase that hand-knit socks offer both comfort and delight, boldly take up the challenge!

Description

Worked in the round, Zion contains both cuff-down and toe-up written directions and a chart for the pattern stitch. The pattern has instructions for a peasant heel (afterthought heel using scrap yarn), but you may substitute whatever heel you enjoy using (links included for alternatives).

The pattern is written for the magic loop method for knitting socks; however, the design could be worked on double-pointed needles or mini-circulars instead should you prefer (ensure you denote your instep stitches with extra markers – so you don’t miss the placement of the heel or toe shaping).

This pattern is available in our Standard formatting. Low-visibility and screen-reader-accessible versions of this pattern are available with this pattern purchase. The low-visibility format is 24pt print in Arial, black font, no italics, and contains written directions (there are no charts to work from). The screen reader format has all the items mentioned above, contains no abbreviations, and accessibility was checked by the read-aloud function on both a Windows PC and Android device.
