Stephanie

Vibrant disco shirts, the iconic Bee Gees’ beats, and John Travolta’s undeniable swagger โ€“ the 70s were an era of unbridled extravagance. Amidst this whirlwind of flamboyance, the movie Saturday Night Fever stands as a timeless source of inspiration for Stephanie, a captivating sock pattern.

Stephanie, the alluring counterpart to Travolta’s character in the film, embodies strength and sass in equal measure. Unwilling to tolerate any nonsense, she radiates an aura of independence that refuses to be overshadowed. A remarkable aspect of the movie is the duality it presents: both a PG-rated version, suitable for a broader audience, and an R-rated iteration that delves into more mature themes. As memories of my youth resurface, I distinctly recall watching the tamer PG version on a worn-out VHS tape, blissfully unaware of the more risque moments that the Netflix rewatch brought to light.

Worked in the round, Stephanie contains both cuff-down and toe-up written directions and a chart for the pattern stitch. The pattern has instructions for a peasant heel (afterthought heel using scrap yarn), but you may substitute whatever heel you enjoy using (links included for alternatives).

The pattern is written for the magic loop method for knitting socks; however, the design could be worked on double-pointed needles or mini-circulars instead should you prefer (ensure you denote your instep stitches with extra markers โ€“ so you donโ€™t miss the placement of the heel or toe shaping).
