Techniques used in Whispers of Alice (listed in alphabetical order)

(k1, yo, k1) in 1 st: Knit, leaving the stitch on the needle, yarn over, and then knit into the same stitch. (2 sts inc)

(k1, yo, k1, yo, k1) in 1 st: Knit, leaving the stitch on the needle, then yarn over, knit, yarn over, and then knit (5 stitches total) into the same stitch. (4 sts inc)

Bead: Using a crochet hook, slip a bead onto the stitch while it’s on the left needle, then purl the stitch. If you’ve chosen to omit the bead, simply purl the stitch.

Br4st inc: Work brioche knit, leaving the stitch on the needle, then yarn over, brioche knit, yarn over, brioche knit into the same stitch. (4 sts inc)


Brk: Knit the stitch that was slipped in the previous row together with its yarn over.


Brk3tog: Insert the right needle into 3 stitches at the same time and brioche knit the 3 stitches together. (2 sts dec)

Brkyobrk: Work brioche knit, leaving the stitch on the needle, then yarn over, brioche knit into the same stitch.  (2 sts inc)

Brsssk: Slip 3 stitches knitwise, one at a time, knitwise. Brioche knit the slipped stitches together through the back loops. (2 sts dec)

K: Knit.

K2tog: Insert the right needle into 2 stitches simultaneously and knit the 2 stitches together. (1 st dec)

K3tog: Insert the right needle into 3 stitches at the same time and knit the 3 stitches together. (2 sts dec)

M1LP: From the front, lift the horizontal strand between stitches with the left needle. Purl through the back loop. (1 st inc)


M1RP: From the back, lift the horizontal strand between stitches with the left needle. Purl through the front loop. (1 st inc)


P: Purl.

P2tog: Insert the right needle into 2 stitches simultaneously and purl the 2 stitches together. (1 st dec)

Sl1-k2tog-psso: Slip one stitch knitwise, then knit 2 stitches together and pass the slipped stitch over. (2 sts dec)

Sl1yo: Bring yarn to the front, slip the next stitch purlwise, then bring the yarn to the back over the needle and the slipped stitch. The slipped stitch and yarn over are counted as 1 stitch.

Sl2tog-k1-p2sso: Slip 2 stitches together knitwise, knit 1, then pass slipped stitches over. (2 sts dec)

Ssk: Slip 2 stitches, one at a time, knitwise. Knit the slipped stitches together through the back loops. (1 st dec)

Ssp: Slip 2 stitches, one at a time, knitwise. Purl the slipped stitches together.  (1 st dec)

Sssk: Slip 3 stitches knitwise, one at a time, knitwise. Knit the slipped stitches together through the back loops. (2 st dec)

Yo: Wrap the working yarn over the right needle, from front to back (counter-clockwise). (1 st inc)
